Peace the world cannot give…

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And
the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or
afraid. John 14:27

Do you remember the “tech wreck”? It was the market crash in
April 2000 when the bubble for Internet companies finally burst and stock
prices plummeted.

Those companies that had not yet established a profitable
business but only an inflated brand watched their stock prices deteriorate over
the next few months down to a fraction of the value they had in early April.

For many, the few years preceding this event were a season
of peace and prosperity; false peace and prosperity.

Although people have put their trust in material goods and
wealth for ages past, this particular season during the dotcom boom gave people
from all backgrounds and ages an opportunity to share in the wealth and share
they did. Buying and selling Internet stocks was a frantic exercise for many.
People took risks they would have never before considered. You know the rest of
the story.

If you experienced any of this hysteria and fell victim to
it then I would guess that you have a new appreciation for Jesus’ words when He
says that the peace He gives is something the world cannot give.

Failure and loss are often the best teachers in helping us
reset priorities…
