No random acts of kindness…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 4:30 am

Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for
the body. Proverbs 16:24

This is one of those simply, universal principles we all
seem to forget. People respond to kindness and to being spoken to in a
respectful manner. Somehow many people believe the opposite. Some people
believe that speaking to others in a condescending or rude manner is the way to
communicate.

There are lots of places in life to witness this behavior.
One such place you will notice it is in an airport. In some recent travels I
watched some people argue with airline staff about the seat they were assigned,
about the way they were handling security, about the restrictions on checking
baggage, etc…

This is also something you see in families and marriages at
times as husbands try to assert their role through harsh and unkind words
rather than gentle, loving and submissive terms.

It is refreshing when someone takes the time to speak to you
and show kindness and respect. As the passage says, it is sweet to the soul.

Let’s try it today, be deliberate in your actions and speak
works of kindness and respect to those you interact with. Watch their faces and
see them respond.

Your words will be sweet to their soul and healthy for their
body. We need to be an encouragement more often to others.

There is no such thing as random acts of kindness. In God’s word being
deliberate is what we are taught rather than being random.
