Conscience and thoughts…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

“for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or
tell them they are doing right”. Romans 2:15

It has been said that your conscience is what hurts when everything
else feels so good.

Just one verse later Paul reminds us that God will judge
everyone’s secret life. The word secret in verse sixteen is “kruptos”, where we
get the word cryptic from, meaning the “secrets things” or in this context the
“secret things of shame”. There is a darkness associated with it since it
speaks of something we would not reveal or openly discuss with anyone.

We have all faced this scenario in our lives and the Lord
knows those “secret things”, yet we live at times as if He is not aware of
them. The Bible says that sin is pleasurable for a season. In other words, the
secret things we do feel so good when we engage in them, but our conscience is
aching. Why? Because God’s laws have been written on our hearts. Again, as Paul
wrote in V14 even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they
know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it.

People can justify and rationalize their actions but we must
do so in the light of God’s word and be willing to have that Light expose the
secret things so that we may be freed from them.
