Insulation vs. isolation…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. John 17:15

Whether people realize it or not, each day that they go out into the world in cities and countries where the weather is inclement and cold to perform their various duties they prepare themselves by putting on the right clothing that fits the job at hand and provides protection against the elements.

In fact one particular clothes manufacturer has made its fortune in recent years by making specific clothing that insulates you from the cold weather not only in standard winter conditions but also in some of the most extreme places on earth, i.e. Nepal (Mt. Everest).

People dress for the job at hand because they know they need to go out and meet the responsibilities before them. The right clothing prepares them to face the conditions. In the same way we dress to face the spiritual weather conditions before us.

The Bible tells us “to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts” (Rom 13:14).

Yet, many believers become fearful and weary over life’s challenges. The attacks of the enemy are too strong for them and the unwillingness to hand it over to the Lord results in discouragement, defeat and isolation.

It becomes easier to avoid conflict and controversy than face it head on. What many people don’t realize is that the very thing they are isolating themselves from is not what is “out there” but rather what is “in here”.

The battle continues whether we are out there in the extreme conditions or whether we are home trying to avoid them because “we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

In other words the battle is spiritual not geographical. It is not based on our physical location only but also on our spiritual condition.
