The attacks increase…

O God, whom I praise, don’t stand silent and aloof while the wicked slander me and tell lies about me. They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason. I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them! Psalms 109:1-4

Verbal assaults, false accusations, and deliberate acts of slander…these and more are what many saints face today in the world they work in. To stand for Christ in today’s society requires more than thick skin, it requires a strong spiritual perspective.

What does this really mean? We see the realities of the spiritual realm in Daniel 10 where he had prayed and waited twenty-one days for God to answer. In this story we see how the enemy forces were at work and how they seemingly delayed the answer to Daniel’s prayer.

The truth is that we simply do not understand nor comprehend just how real the spiritual battle is in life and especially in our own life. Our views are so shortsighted and instead we see those co-workers or family members being insensitive, mean, obnoxious…but in reality they are instruments of the enemy who influences and coerces so many of the outward challenges we see and face.

The people in our lives are not the enemy. The enemy (Satan) is the enemy. He knows how ignorant we are and how we will focus more on the attack than the real attacker. He is crafty and recognizes that through these situations he is likely to get us to act in the flesh and not pray, which is what he fears the most.

Oh, what a lesson we need to learn in this area. Because of our selfishness we get so easily offended and put up walls of protection but in truth these people need prayer constantly. Isn’t this what the Psalmist is saying above when he is describing how he prays for these people but they keep coming?

They will keep coming because the battle is increasing for the souls of men. The enemy will not let up. Just when we think we have some breathing room the attack will come again.

We must keep praying, the blessings will come and we must not give up. Daniel prayed through until the answer came…
