Finding strength…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

During a summer holiday, my family and I had the privilege of visiting some Bible lands and seeing a number of historic sites. On one occasion we were on a guided tour, which we had started in the morning and by noon the heat of the sun was becoming uncomfortable.

The previous day had reached 114 degrees Fahrenheit and we were headed in that direction. The focus of the moment suddenly became finding shade to get out of the heat rather than listening to the tour guide.

There are times in life when the pressures are so great and the heat is on and we desperately need to find a moment or a place of shade and rest. Perhaps our situation is not the threat of being stoned to death but for many of us the strains and stresses we are under can seem just as painful.

We don’t have to live thru the same experiences as David or Job to know how painful life can be at times but like them we discover through our situations that there is only One answer.

We look for answers from friends and family. We search the Internet for devotionals that speak to our situation.

We download messages on the topic of suffering. We buy books that promise understanding and answers but in the end we find ourselves still struggling.

The answers to all of life’s questions, issues, challenges are found only in Christ. We need to resolve that once for all, otherwise we will toil through life continuously without ever finding rest from the heat.

There are times when we simply do not know what to do but it is exactly at those times that we must do what we know. We must go to our Lord, wait on Him for direction, trust Him for guidance, and lean not on our own schemes and plans on how to deal with matters but allow Him to get in the middle of it and do what only He knows how to do.

David “found” strength in the Lord because His supply is endless…
