For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus. Revelation 19:10

Too often when people start discussing a matter, it ends up being more of an exchange of opinions and ideas rather than actually getting down to addressing the matter itself. This, as you know from experience, wastes lots of time and energy.

Years ago I met a man in business who told me that he starts every meeting by first writing on the board the success criteria for the meeting itself. His position was that if we are going to take an hour to discuss something as a group then let’s put up the desired outcome we are aiming for and how we will define it as a successful outcome and meeting. This seems rather parochial but he actually had a good point. We often miss the objective for what we set out to do.

This same tendency can exist when reading the Bible and especially the book of Revelation. The Bible has so many stories, illustrations, prophecies and awesome visions that it can all seem difficult to grasp at times and overwhelm us.

But the Lord is always faithful to clear it up and in the second half of verse ten here in chapter nineteen He tucks away a treasure of a statement that can be easily missed “For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus”…

Next time you find the Word difficult to grasp remember the simplicity of Who it is all about. God defined the “success criteria” for His plan and His Son long ago and without confusion or chaos has given us everything we need to know the outcome…
