The names of God…

The important of God’s name cannot be underestimated. Throughout the Old and New Testament we find dozens of names attributed to God. In many respects they seem endless but there are some specific names given to Him in the Old Testament that truly describe His character and His awesome attributes.

Even more, they are specific in how they meet the needs of His people. We all care about our name and reputation but the names of God are infinite in their meaning…

JEHOVAH ELOHIM: “LORD God” (Genesis 2:4) – He is our God

JEHOVAH-JIREH: “The Lord will Provide.” (Genesis 22:14) – He provides for our needs

JEHOVAH-ROPHE: “The Lord Who Heals” (Exodus 15:22-26) – He brings healing to us

JEHOVAH-NISSI: “The Lord Our Banner.” (Exodus 17:15) – He lifts us up on the battlefield of life

JEHOVAH-M’KADDESH: “The Lord Who Sanctifies” (Leviticus 20:8) – He sets us apart for holiness

JEHOVAH-SHALOM: “The Lord Our Peace” (Judges 6:24) – He is our peace, found only in Him

JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU: “The Lord Our Righteousness” (Jeremiah 23:5) – He is our righteousness

JEHOVAH-ROHI: “The Lord Our Shepherd” (Psalms 23) – He is our Shepherd

JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH: “The Lord is There” (Ezekiel 48:35) – He is always present with us

JEHOVAH-SABAOTH: “The Lord of Hosts” (Isaiah 1:24) – He is the Lord of Heaven’s
