Spiritual highs and lows…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. Genesis 15:1

Abram had experienced victory in rescuing Lot. He had successfully resisted the wealth of the king of Sodom and at this point God approaches him and tells him not to be afraid.

It is interesting how fear can follow faith. We can go through times and seasons where great things are happening in our lives spiritually. We are getting closer to God, hearing His voice more clearly than before, and exhibiting courage in making choices and decisions and being used mightily by Him.

Then it somehow stalls and we find ourselves in the midst of a challenge or matter that is stressful, anxious and contrary to the experience we were having. The enemy thrives in this area. He knows that we have moments of reflection or weakness or doubt and he is right there to push a button, wind us up and get us to be challenged and discouraged.

Didn’t this same thing happen to Jesus right after He was baptized by John (Matthew 3:16-17)? Right after we are told he was led into the wilderness where He experienced temptation from Satan himself (Matthew 4).

But how did He combat it? By proclaiming the Word of God… That is what we need to do also during those times where we hit bottom or get into a spiritual slump. We need to proclaim God’s promises; we need to ensure we remain consistent in spending time in the word and in prayer. We need to reflect upon the stones of remembrance of how the Lord has continually blessed us…
