In the world but not of it

It can only get better…

The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The LORD was with him and caused everything he did to succeed. Genesis 39:23

We recently discussed how Joseph’s witness and faithfulness to serve where God placed him spilled over onto others in the form of many blessings.

As we continue to look at his life, we see in today’s passage one more insight on how Joseph’s character was something God could work with. Joseph made the best of his situation in Potiphar’s home and was blessed but now he has been falsely accused and is in a situation he never imagined…prison…

Not knowing where this would lead, Joseph, at this point, could have easily caved and conceded defeat. No one would blame him for feeling this way. He could easily have resolved that God may not be with him, after all…he was rejected by his brothers, mocked, ridiculed and nearly killed; sold into slavery and when he had a glimmer of hope that things may be turning around he is suddenly accused of something criminal…how would you feel at this point?

But again, here we see the difference between believers and make-believers…Joseph was faithful to perform all the tasks before him, no matter how small or menial. He accepted that this was where God saw fit to place him, and although it is likely he had his moments of doubt and anxiety, he continued to operate as a man who displayed trust in His God…

Where are you today in your life? What path has the Lord placed you on and what circumstances in His divine wisdom, has He allowed to enter your life? Do you find the tasks each day to be menial and tedious, causing you to wonder whether God overlooked you and forgot about the very things you were crying out to Him about?

These are common questions in the lives of all believers but the secret is in remaining faithful not frustrated.

God sees and knows, He hears and listens and at the moment we don’t expect, He will answer and bring forth the direction, open the door or close another – we will see Him working before us.

Remember, as Joseph remained faithful the day unexpectedly came for his deliverance…”Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh”(Genesis 41:14)…
