Things seem cloudy…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys. Exodus 40:38

The cloud was given to the children of Israel by the Lord as a vehicle for protection and direction. It provided shade during the day and a glow at night (Exodus 13:21). The cloud was seen as a visible proof of God’s divine presence in their lives.

In fact, in the book of Numbers, chapter 9, we see specific detail about the importance of the cloud and how the children of Israel relied upon it as a means to follow God’s leading. Notice the emphasized terms in bold in this passage…

17 Whenever the cloud lifted from over the sacred tent, the people of Israel would break camp and follow it. And wherever the cloud settled, the people of Israel would set up camp.

18 In this way, they traveled and camped at the LORD’s command wherever he told them to go. Then they remained in their camp as long as the cloud stayed over the Tabernacle.

19 If the cloud remained over the Tabernacle for a long time, the Israelites stayed and performed their duty to the LORD.

20 Sometimes the cloud would stay over the Tabernacle for only a few days, so the people would stay for only a few days, as the LORD commanded. Then at the LORD’s command they would break camp and move on.

21 Sometimes the cloud stayed only overnight and lifted the next morning. But day or night, when the cloud lifted, the people broke camp and moved on.

22 Whether the cloud stayed above the Tabernacle for two days, a month, or a year, the people of Israel stayed in camp and did not move on. But as soon as it lifted, they broke camp and moved on.

The cloud served its purpose and the children of Israel responded to its moving. Today, we don’t have a cloud to go by so to speak. As we seek direction from the Lord in our lives I think most of us would love to have our own personal cloud. Let’s face it, external evidence is something we want and crave in our lives. No one wants to venture out or make decisions without knowing, to at least some degree, that it is the right move.

The Lord knows this and He has not left us without His direction and guidance. In John 16:13 Jesus gave us a very specific statement of truth when He said …”When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth”.

The Holy Spirit is given to us the moment we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. We can know with assurance that God now hears us and will respond to our prayers. We can also know that as we remain close to Him that He will lead and guide us down the path He has prepared for our lives…

If things are “cloudy” right now in your life then stay where you are, be diligent in that place and wait until the cloud lifts and the spirit of God moves you…you will know when…
