The worst thing…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Psalms 46:1-3

Think of the worst thing that can happen to you. The one thing you fear the most…

Is it the loss of your job or your reputation? Is it the death of a loved one? Is it the collapse of the economy and ultimately your personal finances? Is it the unfaithfulness of a friend or spouse?

Each person has something that they consider to be “the worst thing” for them. It is the one thing that gives them the most anxiety and unrest in their lives when they think about it. Yet God, in His wisdom and incredible love for us, always provides key insights and encouragements in His word to give us proper perspective and preparation for the road ahead.

Here in the first three verses of this Psalms we have the worst case scenario presented to us and the encouragement that if it were to happen our refuge (protection, provision) and strength to face all of it would come from God. The Lord knows that we all have things that weigh heavy on us and He wants us to trust Him fully to see us through, to comfort us and put it all in the proper perspective.

Consider what is weighing on you and then consider where your strength and refuge lies. Your view of God and the truth of His word will dictate how you respond to “the worst thing”…
