On our side…

What if the LORD had not been on our side? Psalms 124:1

Have we considered this question in earnest? Have we truly thought about the path of our life, the road we’ve travelled and how we ended up where we are?

We can look back on our lives and ponder how the circumstances and situations worked out, some as we walked with the Lord and others while we were on our own. We can see the difference and we know deep within in our hearts had the Lord not been on our side, or rather had we not been on His side, things would have worked out very differently.

Foresight is only learned through hindsight. As we look ahead to our future and wonder how the Lord will answer prayer, address the challenges we face and solve the problems before us, we can only fall back on what we know; the promise of His Word and the care and guidance He has provided in the past.

We are down today, wanting to give up, slowly becoming complacent. We fail to remember that God was there in the past and He has never left. We allow ourselves to question his goodness instead of recalling His grace and commitment to look after us.

Yes, what if the Lord was not on our side? Then we would be lost and hopeless. We would face each day without even a single ray of hope shining into our hearts. We would drown in despair and sorrow.

But God is on our side and today, wherever you are spiritually, emotionally, relationally, vocationally or financially, remember this truth…

“that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Romans 8:38-39

He is always on our side, are we on His?
