Break camp…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on. Deuteronomy 1:6-7

The children of Israel had promised to follow God and had been instructed on how to do it. Now it was time for them to move on and live out that which they had been prepared for. If we consider how long they spent in the wilderness together we can empathize with them on probably struggling to get going in some respects.

They had raised families, nurtured relationships, settled in their ways and we can be certain that after such a long time making the radical shift to enter the Promised Land may have seemed overwhelming, yet this is what God was preparing them for all along.

So too with us; many of us are settled where we are. We have gotten comfortable and even complacent in our surroundings. Perhaps God spoke to us months or years ago about something He wanted us to do and as time passed it seemed that we misheard the Lord. But God has not forgotten and even more importantly God often moves His people onto the next journey and chapter in their life.

While it is true that many will settle in one place, like them we too want to know where God will settle us but we don’t have to be anxious about it. We do, however, need to be willing to go where He calls us because there might come a morning where God says, “break camp and move one”…

All the days of preparation, all the moments of Him ministering to you specific things that you were not sure of or thought they might be words in your own mind, all the subtleties that He began to bring along as pointers to a new direction…they all come to a point one day when we will know it is time.

Lord, you have such wonderful plans for your children. Strengthen us to never be complacent or too comfortable. Help us Lord to be willing to move when you say so, to break the camps we’ve settled into and move on in the direction you are leading…
