Boasting in our success…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

This is what the LORD says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken! Jeremiah 9:23-24

Striving for success is something that people struggle with at all levels of society. When we think of success we tend to think immediately of people that are wealthy but success has different meanings for different people, all with differing financial status.

The secret to success is the complete antithesis of what the world teaches. If you look at what Jeremiah is saying and then look at the New Testament to see how the scriptures support these statements you find that the instruction is not what you might expect.

“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom (intellect)…

God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 1 Corinthians 1:27

or the powerful boast in their power (position)…

“This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Zechariah 4:6

or the rich boast in their riches (money)…

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? * Is anything worth more than your soul? Matthew 16:26

What an awakening when you consider how much time, effort and money we spend trying to make ourselves more successful.
