Tough chapters in life…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

They arrived in Bethlehem in late spring, at the beginning of the barley harvest. Ruth 1:22

The bad economy caused him to move his family out of the place they knew so well into a land they probably never expected to stay permanently in.

He raised his family in that new land and as a result his two sons married two local women, something else he never anticipated or expected when those two boys were toddlers running around.

Then he died and then the two sons died. If you consider the series of events just in the first few verses of this book you can understand why Naomi refers to herself as “Mara” – meaning the Lord has made life bitter for me.

News came that the economy was booming in another place so Naomi and the girls packed up and headed there but only Ruth stayed with her as Orpah decided to move on. Thus we find ourselves here at the end of this difficult chapter.

But after darkness comes light, after winter comes spring…

It is the LORD who created the stars, the Pleiades and Orion. He turns darkness into morning and day into night. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The LORD is his name! Amos 5:8

Perhaps this is where you find yourself today, at the end of a difficult chapter or even in the midst of one since we often cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Maybe you are like Naomi at this moment, shadowed by the burdens and blinded to God’s love and purpose.

Both Naomi and Ruth are about to embark on a life changing chapter. They are about to see that the beginning of the harvest season does not only relate to barley but also to their blessing.

Lord, help me to see that also in my life. Help me to always recall your goodness and grace, your mercy and measure in my life. There are no random events for a believer; there is no bad luck or happenstance. My life is completely constructed by you Lord and I pray for the spiritual vision to see it before me…
