He bursts through…

“the Lord who bursts through” 2 Samuel 5:20

As David waited on the Lord for an answer to go out and fight this battle against the Philistines the Lord responded and gave him the go ahead.

Knowing that the Lord was leading him, David went out and won this victory and appropriately gave the glory to God by naming that place Baal-perazim which means to breach the waters, to break or burst through…

Notice the order of events. The enemy mobilized their forces, David was informed and sought the Lord for direction and instruction, the Lord answered and said “yes, go ahead”, David obeyed and went into battle and the Lord “burst through” and gave David and his men the victory.

This is one character trait I love about my Lord – He bursts through, He is not passive aggressive, He doesn’t spend time weighing all the options. He is the Lord and knows exactly what needs to be done and how it needs to unfold. He bursts through our situations when we allow Him to lead and don’t get in front of Him.

He is the one who breaks down the barriers we can never breach, the relationships, the crisis in our lives, the seemingly lost opportunities, the seemingly impossible situations. Our familiarity with the story of the walls of Jericho may have dulled us to how ridiculous this situation really was but have you or I really considered how preposterous it is to have a marching band walking around a hugely fortified city only to blow their instruments the seventh time, shout and watch the walls crumble?

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Jeremiah 32:27
