Rest on every side…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

So Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side. 2 Chronicles 20:30

This is a great place to be in, to have rest on every side of your life. We yearn to have this in our lives, to know that things are good with family, with ministry, with work, with friends…

But we also know that these moments are far and few in between. Even today as you read this you are experiencing some disruption in your world. There is something that has consistently gnawed away at you and although you might trust the Lord fully it is still there and you know it.

Peace around us is not something we can put too much faith in. Peace within us, however, is something that God has promised…

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3

Even more important than this is coming to terms with who, rather than what, peace represents. By “who” I’m referring to the “Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6), to Jesus Christ himself. You see, when we think of having rest and peace in our lives we associate that feeling or state with circumstances, situations, people, etc…

Peace is not found in people, those we associate with whether family or friends…

Peace is not found in profit, how well our investments are doing or how secure our job is…

Peace is not found in power, how successful we are in the eyes of others or our sphere of influence…

Peace is only found in a Person, Jesus Christ…

When you and I settle this fact then we too will discover that despite the outward situations we face, we will have rest on every side since our trust will be in the Prince of Peace himself…
