A worthy guarantee…

Fear of the LORD leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm. Proverbs 19:23

A few years ago a documentary film was made about a man who was in relatively good health that chose to eat fast food at a particular fast food chain for one month.

Each day, every meal had to be eaten at that restaurant.

He started the journey with a physical exam and was issued a clean bill of health. He ended the journey being told that his health had been significantly altered in just thirty days and he was at risk of experiencing a number of severe illnesses and disease.

The point was to prove the effects of consistent bad choices when it came to diet. If you take a moment and reflect on your life I am sure you will see that it has been shaped in many ways through a series of choices and decisions made along the way.

There were times when you might have said you had no choice and therefore jumped in with both feet. There were other times when you carefully weighed the choices and picked the one you thought was best and then there are the choices that we seem to make without much thought, what to eat, what to wear, what to watch…

The passage before us is not a blanket statement to infer that those who trust the Lord won’t ever suffer harm but rather, it speaks to us from another perspective. If you and I fear (respect, honor) the Lord then we are going to make choices and decisions with Him in mind.

I’ll be wiser in how I choose to speak, what I choose to do, where I choose to go and why I make the decisions I make. In other words, when you love someone your life becomes less and less selfish and you desire to please them more.

So while this passage is not a guarantee from ever experiencing pain or difficulty, it is a guarantee that my life will significantly improve if the Lord is first in my life.
