Time to worship…

Filed under: Uncategorized — In the world but not of it @ 5:00 am

At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the LORD. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the LORD filled the Temple of God. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14

Solomon had fulfilled his father’s dream, to build a house for the Lord. It was now dedicated and all the people had shown up to honor the Lord and this temple that was constructed to worship and honor Him.

As the people came into the house of the Lord they began to play instruments, sing songs and worship but then it was interrupted. A thick cloud filled the place and the priests had to stop. Had someone dropped a candle onto the hem of the curtain and started a fire? No, it was the glorious presence of the Lord that came in and filled the temple.

God was in the house! It was only after the people worshipped that God’s presence manifested itself among the people. It was the worship and praise offered genuinely to which the Lord responded.

It is always that way when we worship and praise our Lord. We are drawn into His presence and He makes himself known to us. He meets us where we are but it begins with a heart of worship.

Too often we show up at church and go through the motions of singing the songs and praying. We offer lip service rather than true, heartfelt worship and praise and then wonder why we are dry spiritually and why our time at church is no longer as fruitful as it once was.

Worship, like revival, begins in our heart. It is not conjured up but rather contemplated.

As I meditate on the Word of God and consider just how awesome my God is I begin to worship and praise Him, I begin to see my problems in the light of His incredible control over them, I begin to reflect on just how much He loved me to send His only Son, I wonder in amazement that He considered me that important to provide a way into His presence for eternity.

I begin to truly worship.
