In the world but not of it

You need to go with us…

Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose. Psalm 25:5

Moses was a man who feared the Lord. He didn’t want to move one step without knowing God was with Him. In fact, he was adamant about this;

One day Moses said to the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.” The LORD replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. Exodus 33:12-15

I appreciate the way Moses respectfully yet boldly approached the Lord. In talking with the Lord, Moses was clear about repeating to God what he had been told by Him. This is a good practice for us also especially if we are seeking to know whether the path we are on is truly where God wants us.

God instructs and leads those that want to be led, those that desire His ways. That desire is built up through the time we spend with the Lord, in His word learning and obeying and applying the scriptures and taking in the promises that are there for us.

When God first called Moses at the burning bush you may recall Moses was a bit more timid and skeptical but here we see that as time passed, as the Lord revealed Himself more and more in Moses’ life, the reverence and relationship grew between the Lord and Moses and eventually Moses confidently approached the Lord.

We too have this same privilege as expressed in Hebrews where the writer reminds us that we too can come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16

Like Moses, if we fear the Lord and truly desire His best then we won’t want to move or step out anywhere without Him “personally” going with us.

Lord, help us reflect on our lives and whether there are things you are speaking to us about, showing us or instructing us towards that perhaps we neglect to see.

We desire to know the path you have laid out for us, the only path we should follow. Father, strengthen our feeble minds and hearts so that we won’t deviate from what you desire for us and keep us from taking any steps without first waiting for your guidance and direction.
